'I admit it: above all things, I fear absurdity.' I love this line in Salman Rushdie's 'Midnight's Children'. (1981) Here in a bookshop, walking up and down isles and isles of books... Just because it's a book - or factual or actual or instructional or entertaining - does not mean it's good for you or purposed for your destiny. You can chase knowledge all the way down to nothing at all. We look inside our minds and spirits for meaning, from thoughts and travel and book clubs, to lucid dreaming and political scheming... Stop (if you dare), and ask yourself if you're any closer to that thing you're seeking. Not all that glitters is gold. Not all words are 'spirit and life'. And even real gold has blood on it, real words have malice in them... Where is the good? Where is the pure? Where is the point? ************ Jesus came as God in the flesh. The pure, the holy, the mild - eye to eye with you and me in our relentless search for immortality. He came a road we have walked, but without the fear and sin that we have grasped. He ended his life rejected by men, feeling rejected by God, so that his blood would drip and fall on our souls, and usher us into healing and eternal life. This is the story, my friends. And this is Christ's invitation to you today: 'I am the door. He who enters through me will be saved, and he will come in and go out and find good pasture.' John 10:9
